Pet and children: safety and tips
How do you introduce a dog or cat to children? And how do you teach children to interact safely with pets?
A dog or cat can be a great companion for children—if both are well guided. Children must learn to interact with animals respectfully and carefully. And the animal must be able to be calm and predictable. Here are tips for a safe and enjoyable combination.
🛡️ Safety
- • Teach children: don't pull tail or ears, don't disturb during eating or sleeping
- • Always supervise young children and pets—regardless of how sweet the animal is
- • Give the animal a quiet place where children are not allowed
- • Teach children to recognise dog and cat body language
📋 Introduction
Introduce calmly. Let the animal approach the child. Don't force cuddles. When adopting: ask about the animal's experience with children—many of our dogs and cats are suitable for families.
