Make your home safe for dogs and cats
Cables, plants, kitchen—what to watch for? How to make your home safe for your pet.
A new pet at home means: looking through their eyes. What seems harmless can be dangerous. Cables, plants, food scraps, cleaning products—a dog or cat discovers everything. With a few adjustments you make your home safe.
⚠️ Kitchen and food
The kitchen is a risk area:
- • Keep food scraps, chocolate, grapes, onions and xylitol (chewing gum) out of reach
- • Close bins or put them in a cupboard
- • Pans on the stove: handles inward, or use a lid
- • Cleaning products and medicines in locked cupboards
🪴 Toxic plants
Many houseplants are toxic to dogs and cats. Lilies, dieffenbachia, monstera—check before you bring them home.

- • Cables and cords: hide them or use protective sleeves
- • Small objects (children's toys, batteries): don't leave lying around
- • Balcony and windows: make sure cats can't fall or escape
- • Laundry and detergent: store away, pods can be attractive but deadly
