Traveling with dog or cat

From microchip to plane: everything you need to know for a safe trip with your pet.

A trip with your dog or cat can be fantastic—or a nightmare if you're not prepared. Microchip, vaccinations, rabies, health certificate, airline: each country and airline has its own rules. Here's an overview to make your trip run smoothly.

📋 Pre-departure checklist

  • Microchip (ISO 11784/11785)—required for most countries. Have the chip checked at the vet.
  • Rabies vaccination—often required for EU and many other countries. At least 21 days before departure.
  • European pet passport—with all vaccinations and chip number. Only via an authorised vet.
  • Health certificate—some countries require a certificate max 10 days old.
  • Check with your airline about rules for carriers, weight and costs.

🌴 Traveling to the tropics?

Tropical destinations bring extra risks: heartworm, ticks, Leishmania and other diseases. Start prevention before departure and consult your vet. We know the tropics up close—Saved Souls is in Thailand.

✈️ Flying with your dog or cat

Small dogs and cats may sometimes travel in the cabin (in an approved carrier under the seat). Larger dogs travel in the hold. Not all airlines accept animals—book well in advance. Provide a comfortable carrier, familiar toys and possibly calming aids (in consultation with your vet).
